Scripture

[ecko_quote source="1 Kings 19:11-13"]He said, “Go out and stand on the mountain before the Lord, for the Lord is about to pass by.” Now there was a great wind, so strong that it was splitting mountains and breaking rocks in pieces before the Lord, but the Lord was not in the wind; and after the wind an earthquake, but the Lord was not in the earthquake; and after the earthquake a fire, but the Lord was not in the fire; and after the fire a sound of sheer silence. When Elijah heard it, he wrapped his face in his mantle and went out and stood at the entrance of the cave. Then there came a voice to him that said, “What are you doing here, Elijah?” [/ecko_quote]

Devotion

Pin drop silence- sounds like a familiar phrase? You probably heard your teacher say it or perhaps even your parents. I often tend to reflect on my childhood days. While I'm in the process of doing that, a particular thought always slips past my mind. It's the idea of having a life of no responsibilities. Most of us would happily trade our position if we were given an opportunity I'm sure.

But we're growing so we start to apply logic and reasoning to almost everything we undertake. We start to question why things work the way they do. So weirdly enough, I started to give thought to this particular phrase. I realised something interesting. A possible logic might exist behind that saying.

It's so silent that a pin drop could be heard with ease. But why would a "pin" drop amongst so many other things that could make a sound? Possibly because you are in such a serene state that the only things that could drop are small, tiny, and inconsiderable. God works when every other power stops working, every other channel comes to a half, and when every other door seems shut. His strength isn't needed until our strength is no longer present. We ought to seek him in this silence. When everything is at a standstill, it feels like God is so much closer to you.

It's between you and God. He desires of this intimacy with each one of us. He wants to tell us of the great and wonderful things He has in store for us. He wants to bless us and prosper us. But so often, it's always us talking about the things he needs to do for us. Give God a chance to speak to you.

What's next?

Seek God in the silence. Talk to Him in the early hours of the morning. Let God's presence be known to your soul. Let the anointing of God flow like it did on Aaron. You will achieve a state of being in a place where you stop talking, and God starts talking. You sit in silence and without uttering a single word, you know your heart was connected to God. You will feel joy overwhelming. It's an unreal experience, and it's hard to put it into words. But it's something we all should desire to experience.
